Lucid w/ The Blind Owl Band @ Nectar’s
March 26, 2016 @ 8:00 pm
Lucid (Plattsburgh, NY)
Barreling out of the northern woods like a grizzled bear on speed, Lucid, the hardest working band in the North Country (Upstate NY and VT), careens across the musical spectrum as a V8 blend of genres emerge- from jazz to rock, honky-tonk blues to reggae.
The central core of Lucid has been evolving together for nearly a decade, with just a few line-up changes, the most recent being the addition of Josh West on the drums. Josh is joined by Lowell Wurster (percussion, harp and vocals), Kevin Sabourin (guitar and vocals), Jamie Armstrong (saxophones, clarinet and vocals), Chris Shacklett (bass, trombone and vocals), and Andrew Dellar (keyboards, accordion and vocals).
Lucid shows no sign of stopping. Weathering such band-crushing events as line-up changes, and the most recent loss of their well-known tour bus “Lucy,” they continue to perform, they continue to produce new hits, and continue to grow into a brotherhood not seen in most other bands.
Lucid’s travels continue to take the band farther, their territory expanding with each weekend. Growing outward from their Adirondack home base, Lucid can be regularly seen all over the Northeast; from Rhode Island and Connecticut, to Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York and Vermont, they keep fans moving and shaking and eager for more. The Lucid bus has ventured all the way down the East Coast to Florida and back and is looking forward to upcoming tours that will take them West.
“Living in a ski town, one constantly hears the adage, ‘if you like it now, you should have been here 10 years ago, before all these people showed up’,” said Garret K. Woodward (Roving Festival Writer/State of Mind Music Magazine). “The funny thing is, in 10 years, I’ll probably be saying the same thing about Lucid and the unforgettable presence they create onstage and out of your speakers.”
The Blind Owl Band
The Blind Owl Band was conceived in the fall of 2010 as 4 friends unknowingly crossed pathways and began to play and write music. The band is composed by Arthur Buezo (Guitar, Vocals), Christian Cardiello (Bass), Eric Munley (Mandolin, Vocals) and James Ford (Banjo, Vocals). Starting in Feb. of 2011 the Blind Owl Band officially formed, and started shows around their home in Saranac Lake, NY in the heart of the Adirondack Mtns.
The band views their traditional arrangement as just the start of the musical concept. “Although we look like a bluegrass band we are not. We are The Blind Owl Band, a musical representation of what sounds float around in our heads. We use the instruments of our ancestors, but play music of our time, influenced by all that has happened in the musical world over the past 25 years. We hope we can achieve a unique personal sound through a raw instrumentation. In a time of music and sound perfection and an expansion of the realm through digital processors, we hope to inspire use of wood and metal. To take a basic approach and expanded it to a sound all its own.”
In just under two years the band has released their debut album “Rabble Rousing” a 15 track album featuring all original music. Just this past July the band also released the follow up “This Train We Ride is Made of Wood and Steel”. A 12 track, completely original album, that shows the continuing development of the band. Heavy regional touring has also ensued all over the North East playing over 250 shows in 9 states since the band starting regional touring in January 2012.
The Blind Owl Band has also appeared at over 25 festivals during this time. This includes: The Peach Music Festival, Jerry Jam, Backwoods Pondfest, Jibber Jazz Madsummer Meltdown, Fiddler’s Picnic, The Purple Pig Music Festival, Harry’s Harvest Festival, Sterling Stage and More.
The Blind Owl Band has shared the stage with: Trampled By Turtles, Railroad Earth, Larry and His Flask, The Rumpke Mtn. Boys, Hot Day at The Zoo, Floodwood, Jatoba, Driftwood, Cabinet, Lucid, The Bloodroots Barter, Gold Town, Eastbound Jesus, The Mallett Brothers and more!
